College Career

Freshman Year

Melton appeared in 36 games, starting that year’s final 25 of the seasons. He averaged 8.3 points per game, 3.5 assists, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.9 steals. Melton recorded 13 points, nine rebounds, five assists, four steals, and a block in an 84-76 win over projected No. 2 pick Lonzo Ball and UCLA on January 25. On February 1, he backed this up with a 16-point, 7-rebound, 6-assist, 6-steal, 2-block performance against future #1 selection Markelle Fultz and Washington.

Melton became the first rookie since Dwyane Wade to record at least 300 pts, 150 rebs, one hundred assists, 60 steals, and 35 blocks in their first season. Due to those starts, he was expected to be a significant player for USC’s upcoming season.

The allegations say Bland and other members implicated got advantages from financial advisers and others to persuade student-athletes to stay with them. Following the news, USC suspended Melton indefinitely in connection with the controversy due to a family member’s participation. Melton announced his decision to leave USC and enter the 2018 NBA Draught on February 21, 2018.
