Tucker left Texas following his junior season and was selected 35th overall in the NBA Draft 2006. Following the draft, he signed a two-year contract with the Toronto Raptors, although he only featured in 17 games, logging 83 minutes of playing time. The Raptors traded Tucker in March 2007.

Tucker signed with Hapoel Holon in Israel after failing to secure a position in the NBA for the 2007-08 season. Tucker left Toronto after a brief return and signed a four-year, $32 million contract with the Houston Rockets. Tucker rapidly established himself as a crucial role player for the Rockets, assisting Houston in winning back-to-back South-west Division titles in 2018 and 2019. During the 2019 playoffs, Tucker averaged 11.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.

Tucker had mutually decided with coach Stephen Silas on March 11, 2021, as the deadline for trading preceding, to no longer play until all parties could reach an equitable arrangement.

Tucker was sent to the Milwaukee Bucks with Rodions Kurucs on March 19, 2021, in exchange for D. Augustin, J., and D. J. Wilson, and the teams also traded draft picks. Houston, in particular, pushed Milwaukee’s 2022 first-round pick to the unprotected 2023 draft. 

Tucker and the Bucks, in game 6, defeated the Phoenix Suns in the NBA Finals 2021 on July 20, 2021. This is his first NBA title and the Milwaukee Bucks’ first championship since 1971. Tucker scored 31.3 minutes, 4.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.0 steals in the series, mainly guarding Devin Booker and Jae Crowder.

Tucker was a fan favorite in Milwaukee despite only playing 43 games in a calendar year, 23 of which were in the postseason.

Tucker signed with the Miami Heat on August 7, 2021. Tucker tied his career high with 23 points, nine rebounds, and five assists against the Cavaliers on December 13.

Tucker signed a three-year, $33.2 million contract with the Philadelphia 76ers on July 6, 2022.
