Baltimore Orioles is completely out of the race for the AL East. Before Friday night’s game, Baltimore is 26 games out of first place and we’re not even at the All-Star break yet. The Orioles will start Thomas Eshelman, who is a soft-throwing right-hander who has made only four starts this season. He has accumulated a 7.16 ERA in 16.1 innings and has yet to complete four innings in a start this season. Those appearances have been against some of the best offenses in the league, but he won’t catch a break on Saturday as the White Sox come into town. Eshelman is different from most pitchers as his strikeout rate is 6.6 percent.
It hasn’t been the season Lucas Giolito had hoped for. His 4.20 ERA is the highest of his last three seasons and Giolito is coming off his worst start of the season in Detroit, where he allowed six runs on ten hits in five innings. However, one of his best starts of the season came against the Orioles when he pitched seven innings, allowing just three hits while striking out a season-high 12 batters. He will face an offense that has been incredibly inconsistent at the plate recently as the Orioles rank 18th in batting average and 20th in on-base percentage against right-handed pitchers in the last seven days. With neither pitcher playing all that great right now, the White Sox have a much better offense and they should be able to win this game by a few runs.
I look for the White Sox to keep up their good play in this one. The worst thing they could do is play down to their competition. This happened last weekend when they lost the series against the Tigers.
The White Sox are the better team and I look for them to play like it in this one. I really have no faith backing the O’s in this one.
Giolito needs to bounce back and this is a good opportunity to do so. I also look for the Orioles to hit around Eshelman here.I like the White Sox on the run line in this one.
