Youngest NBA player to score 10,000 points
Kobe Bryant is one of the most honored scorers in NBA history and ranks third on the all-time scoring list for his career. The Los Angeles Lakers legend has set many records along the way, including March 5, 2003.
Bryant scored 20 points on the night against familiar rivals, the Indiana Pacers, becoming the youngest player in NBA history to score 10,000 career points. Equally important, the Lakers won over the Pacers thanks to a buzzer-beater from another legendary key player.
“The Big Man” Robert Horry hit 20 feet at the end of the game to help the Lakers win, showing that he has a key shot even if it’s not playoff time.
It was actually a rest night for Bryant, who made just nine of his 26 shots. The game also ended his ridiculous 16-game streak of at least 30 points. But as always, Bryant made up for it in other ways, adding 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals to help the Lakers win.
Shaquille O’Neal was his normal ruler with 26 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks, while Derek Fisher had 19 points. Jermaine O’Neal led the Pacers with 28 points and 11 rebounds, and Ron Artest had 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Still, the night was all about Kobe making history. Reaching 10,000 points at the age of 24 is staggering, something very few players can do. Even Kobe himself couldn’t put it into words after the game.
However, his teammate Shaq did, calling Bryant a future Hall of Famer. Never said anything more true. Ultimately, that record will be broken by LeBron James, but that doesn’t negate what Kobe achieved tonight.
