Early life and Career

He was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, to Turkish parents and played basketball for Turkey’s young national team. Yurtseven was named to the 2014 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship Best Five. In addition, he was invited to play in the Jordan Brand Classic International Game.

On March 20, 2015, he made his EuroLeague debut against Emporio Armani Milano, scoring two points in one minute and four seconds of action.

He played against the Brooklyn Nets on October 5, 2015, at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York. In 15 minutes and 18 seconds of playing time, he had 8 points, seven rebounds, and one block in his team’s win over the Netts. At 17 years, he became one of the youngest players in the NBA to play in a preseason game.

Yurtseven scored 91 points (more than his whole competition), made 34 of 49 shots (including five three-pointers), and grabbed 28 rebounds in a 115-82 triumph over the youth club of Eylul Basketbol Ihtisas at an under-18 young age competition in Turkey.

Yurtseven was announced as a college basketball player at North Carolina State University on May 16, 2016. However, due to his previous experience playing for Fenerbahçe in some professional games, the NCAA decided to suspend him for the first nine games of their season (roughly 30% of the schedule) and require him to donate $1,000 to a charity choice in return for being fully eligible for playing time moving forwards. After serving his suspension, he returned to the court on December 15 and won against Appalachian State University.

Yurtseven would enter the 2017 NBA draught on March 14, 2017, with the chance of returning to North Carolina State for his sophomore season. His father announced his return to North Carolina State for his sophomore year after trying out for the 2017 NBA Draught Combine.

He increased his points per game score from 5.9 to 13.5 during his sophomore year. This substantial improvement earned him All-ACC Third Team recognition. Yurtseven would try out for the 2018 NBA draught again on March 21, 2018. Even if he stayed in college, he said he would not return to North Carolina State and would instead request a transfer to another university.

Yurtseven announced his transfer to Georgetown on April 16, 2018. He became eligible to play for the Hoyas in the 2019-20 season and will have two more years of eligibility. Yurtseven scored 20 points in Georgetown’s 81-68 victory over Mount St. Mary’s. He averaged 15.5 points and 9.8 rebounds per game but was sidelined for seven games due to an ankle ailment. On April 28, 2020, he revealed his intention to enter the 2020 NBA draught and leave Georgetown.

Professional career

Oklahoma City Blue

Yurtseven signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder on December 8, 2020, after going undrafted in the 2020 NBA draught. The following day, he was released. Yurtseven was added to the roster of the Oklahoma City Blue, the Thunder’s NBA G League club, on January 28, 2021.
