James Monteinez Wiseman is a Professional basketball player for the NBA’s Golden State Warriors. He’s a 7-foot center who played for the Memphis Tigers in college. Born in Nashville, Tennessee, he began his freshman season at Ensworth School but then transferred to Memphis East High School, where former NBA player Penny Hardaway was his head coach.

Wiseman joined the Penny team on the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) circuit, founded by Penny Hardaway. Wiseman ran into trouble when the TSSAA ruled that he was ineligible for his junior season because of an “athletic coaching connection” between him and Hardaway. However, Wisemen got away with it because it couldn’t prove anything. He had a very successful freshman season in Memphis, averaging 18.5 pts, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks per Match, earning MaxPreps Junior third-team All-American recognition. Wiseman led his Memphis team to the TSSAA Class AAA title, leading the team with 19 points.

He stayed at Memphis High for his senior season. His triple-double performance of 27 points, 20 rebounds, and ten blocks helped his team win the 8AAA regional championship. As a senior, he averaged 25.8 points, 14.8 rebounds, and 5.5 blocks per Game and was named Gatorade Player of the Year and Morgan Wootten Player of the Year.

Wiseman won the Tennessee Class AAA Mr. Basketball award while appearing at the McDonald’s All-American Game, the Jordan Brand Classic, & the Nike Hoop Summit. He was named a five-star recruit and committed to Memphis, where his former high school coach Penny Hardaway became head coach a year ago. He joined Memphis only to suspends for alleged booster ties to fellow University alumnus Hardaway.

Wiseman was later cleared of all charges but decided to forego his college season and declare for the NBA draft. The Golden State Warriors selected him with the second overall pick in the NBA Draft 2020.
