Who Are The Newly-Promoted Serie A Teams For The 2022/2023 Season

AC Milan has won the 2021/22 Serie A title for the first time in 11 years, capping off an exciting season. Meanwhile, Cagliari, Genoa and Venice have been relegated at the end of the season. However, the newly promoted Serie A teams for the 2022/23 season are Lecce, Cremonese and Monza.

The 2022/23 Serie A season will be the 121st season of Italy’s top football league and the 13th since it was renamed Lega Serie A.

Serie A consists of 20 teams. At the end of each league match, the bottom three teams are automatically relegated. In its place are teams from the Italian Serie B. This article will introduce you to the new Serie A clubs that will compete in the 2022/23 season.

US Lecce

Salentians return to Serie A after a two-year absence after winning the 2021/2022 Serie B title. Lecce won the league with 71 points from 38 games all season, with automatic promotion to the Italian top flight.

The club is also known as I Giallorossi (yellow and red) and plays its home games at Stadio Via del mare with a capacity of 31,533. Their club president is Saverio Sticchi and their manager is Marco Baroni.

They played in Serie A for the first time in 1985/86 and achieved their highest position in Serie A in 1988/89 by finishing ninth.

Marco Baroni is likely to continue as Lecce’s Serie A manager next season. He hopes to stabilize the club and help them avoid relegation at the end of the 2022/2023 season.

Lecce has gone through a number of upgrades over the years before being relegated almost immediately and is looking to buck the trend in this campaign.

US Cremonese

The 119-year-old club has finally returned to the top echelons of Italian football after a 26-year absence that has seen them bounce back at the lower end of Italian football for years.

Le Tigri achieved this feat after finishing second in Serie B in 2021/2022. Cremonese amassed 69 points from 38 games to qualify automatically for the upcoming 2022/2023 Serie A season.

Cremonese is headquartered in Cremona, Lombardy, Italy and was founded in 1903. They are also known as I Grigiorossi (grey and red) or Le Tigri (tiger).

The Lombardy-based side face a tough task next season to keep their league standing. Head coach Massimiliano Alvini will have to put on his thinking cap to help the Greys and Reds avoid relegation before the end of the season.

AC Monza

This is the first time the Lombardy-based club has played in Serie A in its 110-year history. The feat was achieved by I Brianzoli after winning the Serie A qualifying play-offs with Serie B sides Brescia and Pisa.

Monza initially finished fourth in Serie B with 67 points from 38 games, which qualified them for the playoffs. They beat Brescia 3-2 in the semifinals of the playoffs before facing Pisa in the final round of the playoffs. A gruelling 6-4 aggregate victory secured Monza’s first promotion to Serie A.

They return to Serie B in 2020 after a 19-year absence and are promoted to Serie A in 2022.

Monza is owned by former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, former owner of AC Milan.

Also known as I Biancorossi (white and red), they play their home games at the 18,568-capacity Stadio Brianteo.

Many will doubt Giovanni Stropa’s side’s chances in the upcoming Serie A, but you can be sure they will try to avoid a dip.
